Janmaitri Kalpgathi Youth Organization, popularly known as Janmaitri is a registered Non-Government Organization led by youth. Janmaitri works with hill communities in high altitude areas in district Chamoli in Uttarakhand State. This youth organization envisions an ecological, social and economic environment in which mountain communities can continue sustainable settlement for themselves and future generations in a sustainable manner.


Since its inception in 2009, Janmaitri has carried out various social development programs focusing on livelihood generation, youth and women empowerment, and disaster management. It has been passionately working on the issues of women, youth and farmers in the hills of Uttarakhand. After 2013 disaster, disaster preparedness has been Janmaitri’s major areas of focus. Currently Janmaitri has been reaching out to 5000 households in 55 remotest mountain villages in district Chamoli.


It has been partnering with Govt. Depts/agencies, banks, NGOs and CBOs. Over the years Janmaitri has developed and maintains healthy relations with communities. It has been able in trust building, understanding local issues and implementing programs in participatory approach. It has conducted a variety of awareness building programs, skilling programs, village based economic activities that are linked directly and indirectly with improved life style of the communities and conservation of the biodiversity of the region.
